Indian Government Scholarships To Study Abroad For Indian Students

Education is the key to bring our economy free from poverty and unemployment and make our country one of the developed countries of the world. Caching all this in mind, the Indian government provides numerous scholarships to encourage Indian students to move abroad for their studies. The intention of these scholarships is to financially assist those students who have low bank balance but high ambitions. Through the multiple schemes and programs launched by the Indian government, all meritorious and worthy students receive an opportunity to realize their dreams. Following is the information compiled on the different scholarships granted by the Indian Government. 

Orange Tulip Scholarship 

This scholarship is for those students who want to pursue their bachelors or masters in Netherlands. The prerequisite for this scholarship is that you must be a resident of India and you have been accepted by the Dutch University, or your admission process is going on in any university of Netherlands. The scholarship amount is not fixed in this case as sometimes there is 50% reduction or sometimes there is 25% reduction. It is also possible that the scholarship will cover only living costs or visa fees, etc.

Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowship

This scholarship is for Indian students in Ph.D. who want to do some research in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Energy Studies, Geology, Environmental Sciences, Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Public Policy, Earth Sciences, and Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. The prerequisite for this scholarship is that you must be an Indian scholar who is enrolled in Ph.D. program in Indian Institution as well as affiliated to one USA host institution during the period when allowance is granted. Through this scholarship, the following allowances are made: 

• J-1 visa assistance
• Monthly gratuity
• Accident and Sickness Program for Transfers per USA Government guidelines
• Round-trip economy class air flying connecting India and the U.S.
• Fair settling-in grant
• Professional grant

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships

This scholarship is for Indian students pursuing Ph.D. who want to conduct research study in USA. The prerequisite for this scholarship is that you are enrolled in Indian institution for Ph.D. and your thesis submission date should not be more than 3 months after the issue of this scholarship. Also, while applying for this scholarship, you need to submit a copy of your research paper published during your M.Phil/Master’s thesis. This scholarship will include a monthly allowance, round-trip economy class tickets for travelling, and J-1 visa provision. 

National Overseas Scholarship Scheme by the Indian Government

This scholarship offered by Indian government is particularly for students who wants to pursue Masters or Ph. D. in the fields like Engineering, Management, Commerce, Agricultural Sciences and Medicine; International Commerce, Humanities, Pure Sciences and Applied Sciences, etc. The essentials for this scholarship is your age should be less than 35 years. You must have score a minimum of 55% in Undergraduate study (if applying for masters) and a minimum of 55% in Postgraduate study (if applying for Ph.D.). You must belong to the following castes - 

• Scheduled Castes
• Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes
• Landless Agricultural Laborers
• Traditional Artisans

The scholarship covers everything from tuition fees to travel expenses and other contingencies.
