Students go through SAT test, which is designed to test a student's aptitude and knowledge in three subject areas, such as- reading, writing, and maths and Like the ACT test, the SAT is used by colleges to evaluate an applicants eligibility for admission purposes. So, the better a student scores on the SAT the better the chance of getting accepted to reputable colleges or universities, according to their interest. Also, the SAT is composed of 5 sections, that includes- Reading, Writing and Language, Math with No Calculator, Math with Calculator and Essay. Besides, Some high schools and colleges require students to complete the essay portion of the test while others don’t. The students who not committed to taking the Essay portion of the SAT, they'll want to research which school requires applicants to complete the Essay test for admission considerations. Students are recommended preparing for and completing the essay portion of the SAT exam.

To explore some proven tips, techniques and strategies for improving students overall performance on the SAT, and their performance on individual sections of the SAT are as follows-

  • The General SAT Test Taking Strategies-

For general SAT test, students should take strategies that should be applied through the SAT test. Also, Apply these techniques and strategies on each section in the SAT test and students should see their score improve. Consider the following points-

  1. Students should read section directions before the exam.

  2. They should study and review the directions for each SAT section before the test and use your test time for the test not for reading directions.

  3. Students should answer the questions they know first.

  4. As they go through each section, they should answer all of the questions they know the answers to first. Also, mark all the questions they don't immediately know the answer to and return and answer them later.

  5. Students should eliminate incorrect answers and if they are able to eliminate even one choice for the selection of possible answers then guess. Often it's easier to eliminate answers they know to be incorrect than to identify the correct options. Moreover, eliminating all the incorrect answers often leads to the correct option.

  6. They should be neat.

  7. Students should not be sloppy when filling in the answer grid for student-produced response questions.

  8. Always use your test booklet.

  9. As students are allowed to write in the test book, they should cross out answers they know are wrong and do scratch work.

  10. Also, Avoid stray marks.

  11. As a machine scores students to test, make sure not to put any stray marks on the answer sheet. The SAT scoring machines frequently can't differentiate between a correct answer and an accidental stray marks.

  12. Make sure the first response is usually correct.

  13. For students first response to a question is usually correct then don't change an answer unless its certain that they have made an error or mistake.

  14. Also, there is only one correct answer.

  15. Students should only select one answer for each question and as there is only one correct answer. So, sometimes it may seem there is more than one answer and select the best answer for each question.

  16. Students should not skip answers, guess at least.

  17. Older versions of the SAT, students were penalized for guessing. Though not anymore. If they don't have any idea what the answer is then guessed and they aren't penalized for guessing. Although, before guessing, always try and eliminate at least one incorrect answer option.

  18. Students should Pay attention.

  19. They should make sure they are placing your answers in the correct number space and section on their answer sheet and It's easy to place their answer in the wrong place if they are not paying close attention.

  20. Also, Budget the time.

  21. Students should Pace themselves as this test is timed and Only spend a few moments on the easy questions and no more than a minute or two on the harder questions. Also, Don't forget that the SAT consists of several small, timed, tests. Besides, It's easy to lose track of time so make sure to pay attention to how much time is allotted for each test and how much time is remaining as students proceed through each section. Also, Pacing yourself requires practice so practice more.

  22. Solve Easy questions first.

  23. Students should go for a rule of thumb is that easy questions on the SAT typically precede harder questions later.

  24. They should make sure they understand the question properly.

  25. Students should make sure that they fully understand each question before they answer it. Even if they have taken a lot of practice tests they will be tempted to answer questions, they recall from practice tests and also, make sure to answer the questions being asked and not those from practice tests.

  26. Students should bring a watch or timer.

  27. Besides, do not forget to bring the stopwatch to the testing centre. There isn't always an accurate clock at the testing centre.

  28. They should know what to expect on the test.

Therefore, students should need to know the types of questions to expect on the SAT. As there 52 Reading questions for 65 minutes and  44 Writing & Language questions for 35 minutes as well as 58 Math questions for 80 minutes along with one Essay for 50 minutes respectively. Thus, students should spare no efforts to do the best of their abilities.                                          Reference-- https://www.educationcorner.com/sat-test-taking-tips.html
