Study Visa processing time 

The average visa processing time taken by the Spanish embassy or consulate is 15 to 30 days. But some cases even take around 3 months to get processed. Also, even with minor errors, the application is rejected and the embassy tells candidates to reapply and it gets delayed. Thus, you should apply for a visa as soon as you receive confirmation of your admission. 


Documents required for Study Visa 

The following list of documents is essential for the application for a Spanish study visa: 

  1. Filled Visa application form

  2. 2 recent passport-sized colored photographs

  3. Your passport with validity for your course duration along with photocopies of all pages.

  4. Criminal record certificate (Not older than last 5 years) 

  5. Acceptance letter from the Spanish Educational Institution

  6. Recent medical certificate 

  7. The document of health insurance with minimum insured amount of 30,000 euros for the whole course duration.

  8. Financial proof of a minimum of 900 EUR/month to sustain yourself.

  9. Proof of your accommodation in Spain.


Spanish Study Visa process 

The concise process of acquiring a Spanish study visa is as follows: 

Step 1 - Receive an acceptance letter from Spanish University 

The primary document used in the application is the proof of admission to any Spanish university. Otherwise, there is no point in applying for a visa. 


Step 2 - Find out the best visa for you

Among the two types of Spanish study visas, select the most appropriate one for you. 

  1. Short-term student visa - This visa is perfect for those whose course duration is between 3 months to 6 months. 

  2. Long-term student visa - This visa is perfect for those whose course duration is more than 6 months. Along with this visa, a residential permit is also required to live in Spain


Step 3 - Check the eligibility criteria 

The eligibility criteria for a Spanish student visa are as follows: 

  • A valid Indian passport with citizenship. 

  • A secured seat at any educational institute in Spain.

  • No criminal records

  • A valid medical certificate 

  • Financial stability to bear all costs and expenses during your stay


Step 4 - Collect all the documents 

Compile all the aforementioned documents with their original copies as they have to be submitted to the embassy for final verification. But make sure that all paperwork is authentic and valid, otherwise, you may face a permanent ban from getting a Spanish student visa. 


Step 5 - Fill up the application form and submit it

Now that you have prepared everything, you are all set to fill the application form and submit it to the nearby embassy or consulate of Spain. The processing of your student visa application will start after you will pay the visa fee. Soon within 15-20 days, you will receive a reply from the embassy. 


Step 6 - Apply for a Residential permit 

If you selected a long-term visa, then you need to apply for a residential permit upon your arrival in Spain. For this, you need to reach out to local authorities and follow the process stated by them.
