Le Cordon Bleu established a presence in Australia in 1992 when it signed a tripartite agreement with the International College of Hotel Management and TAFE SA to deliver the International Diploma of Hotel Management. This was a very significant agreement as the qualification had previously only been offered in Switzerland. As part of this arrangement students had the opportunity to be awarded the Le Cordon Bleu Diplôme Culinaire d’Hôtelier, with this partnership arrangement lasted for over 10 years.In March 1998 Le Cordon Bleu Australia was registered as a company with the first meeting of the Board of Directors occurring in July 1998. Soon after this Le Cordon Bleu gained training provider registration with the Accreditation and Registration Council of SA under the Vocational Education, Employment and Training Act and the Education Services for Overseas Students Act. This registration allowed Le Cordon Bleu to recruit domestic and overseas students and to have its own courses accredited.From these beginnings, Le Cordon Bleu Australia grew to include campuses in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Today Le Cordon Bleu Australia is registered to deliver a broad range of vocational and higher education programmes in its own right and partnering with other highly respected, credible and quality tertiary institutions, which has from the beginning been a central component of the Le Cordon Bleu business model - a model that continues to drive business expansion today.Over the last century Le Cordon Bleu has seen revolutionising change as we have evolved from a Parisian cooking school to an international network of culinary arts and hospitality institutes. Our privileged partnerships and articulation agreements with various governments, universities, and culinary associations have allowed us to promote French Art de Vivre worldwide.The name Le Cordon Bleu has been used for the first time in relation to culinary excellence since the 16th century when King Henry III created one of the most important orders in France, “L’Ordre du Saint-Esprit.” Symbolising this order was the cross of the Holy Spirit which hung on a blue ribbon or un cordon bleu. Due to the prestigious nature of this Order and the decadent feasts accompanying their ceremonies, the name Le Cordon Bleu became well recognised and celebrated.Le Cordon Bleu as a culinary arts school was founded in Paris in 1895 by the journalist and publisher of La Cuisinière Cordon Bleu magazine, Marthe Distel. On October 15, 1895 the first cooking demonstration ever to be held on an electric stove was staged at Le Cordon Bleu in an effort to promote the magazine and launch the Paris cooking school. From this point on, the international reputation of Le Cordon Bleu spread rapidly. Great chefs came to the school to teach students further contributing to the world-renowned reputation of the school. As a result, students from a variety of countries were enrolling in classes as well as notable figures including Julia Child in 1950.Today Le Cordon Bleu has a presence in some 20 countries with more than 40 international schools attended by 20,000 students annually. Students are taught by our Master Chefs of which the majority come from Michelin-starred restaurants or are winners of prestigious competitions and titles such as Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Le Cordon Bleu Australia (LCBA) is registered as a training organisation by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and is accredited to deliver vocational certificate and advanced diploma courses.Le Cordon Bleu Australia (LCBA) also has the authority to provide courses of study to students studying on an Australian student visa under the CRICOS provider code 02380M. Le Cordon Bleu Australia offers vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes in partnership with leading tertiary institutions. All programmes have been designed with input from industry and offer a blend of theoretical and practical training.
