India will soon be amongst the most populous country and can have one of the largest economies in the world. Millions use graduates in India every year, mostly from the middle class. Unlike India, many countries have their primary as well as secondary Education free and they made it compulsory and its law. In the current scenario, education is becoming a business. The education system in India- Universities

India has a very complex higher education system with around 760 universities and approximately 38000 colleges. Government colleges special Central Government colleges absorb only around 3% of students and that to the best quality. Various range of state universities usually affiliates state colleges or private colleges, which awards degrees. Also, there is deemed university, which is introduced quite recently so as to cover many private institutions that are basically established by many business entrepreneurs.

The education system in Australia- Universities

Australian qualification framework- AQF, is the education system that is built in Australia. It was started around 1995 and usually covers various higher education and vocational training and also a school leaving certificate as well as a secondary certificate of education. All kinds of schools and universities, as well as vocational, are brought together in the Australian education system. Various types of rules and regulations are present in Australian education. Students can find huge differences in education abroad in comparison to education in India. In western countries, they focus more on practical based learning and practical knowledge and also allow creativity in education. Their education is treated as a complete learning process. Besides India mainly focuses on knowledge-based on books, learning in India is not that practical.

Whereas if you talk about the Indian education system its complete opposite, the theoretical framework is given more importance rather than the practical concept of learning.

  • The use of technology is different in both countries. In India, the use of technology in education is quite restricted. It has a very narrow spectrum of students which needs to be expanded. various Universities and colleges should focus more on teaching students judicious use of available technology so that they are able to compete with international standards of education. Moreover, in Australia, it is quite different. The evaluation of students’ academic improvement is assessed there and not just tested which means that every student undergoes many assessments and only the best is graded and considered in their education process.

  • The difference in the system of education- India needs some radical changes as earliest as possible as Indian education is a very old fashioned system of education. It’s high time to increase the standards of education as the concept of globalization and outsourcing is becoming extremely popular.

India should look at the differences between the two countries and work accordingly. Australia is a country with around 23 million people only when the landmass is quite bigger than India. On the other hand, India has 1.2 billion people. So When we look at the per capita income of a country, Australia’s per capita income is around 55000 and India’s per capita income is in low thousands. Thus, it’s evident that both countries are very different in terms of pedagogy as well as in terms of their needs.

India does not have all the basic requirements available to all. For instance, Not all people in India have access to the Internet easily. India is somewhat like Europe, where people have many different cultures and languages. Therefore automatically there is a kind of regional demand, which is still booting up, in an environment where not everyone has internet access. On the other hand, if we take an example of Australia, it is not the issue. People have their multiple opportunities and it’s up to them to do it or not. Students can take either vocational education or higher education, both are equal in demand. It’s high time that India should create an environment where there are several types of opportunities for students to have the education of their choice and their interest but due to the increasing population, it’s quite evident that it’s not going to happen anytime soon. Whereas in Australia, the vocational education system is very big. For instance- even if somebody is a plumber or a driver and they are earning well then nobody really bothers about it. It’s all about earning a good and looking after their own livings. On the other hand, India is heavily into skills and not about studying according to a person’s passion. 

In the context of globalization in which people are living in at the moment, people are not merely looking at just a global world but also at global mobility. Be it any country, if the credentials are not well recognized then there are some issues because the person has to rescale themselves accordingly. The countries should come down to competency-based Education where all the certifications and courses are well recognized all around the globe.
