The LSAT is a standardized test for students aspiring to pursue an education in law. The test, along with high schools and other grades, helps the admission process in selecting prospective students. The test is for students who have completed their bachelors’ degree and for further studies choose law, though a bachelors’ degree may not be a mandatory requirement in certain institutes.

The test is given 7 times a year all around the world in centres.

Types of questions:

There are 5 sections and the entire test lasts for 3 hours and 30 minutes.

  • Logical reasoning – This section consists of two parts. It will test the analytical skills of the student.

  • Reading comprehension – This section will test the ability to infer answers from the given test.

  • Analytical reasoning/Logic games – This is considered to be the most difficult section. The questions will test the ability to use given information to draw meaningful results.

  • Experimental section – this section is not scored and only used for reasons pertaining to future exams. The questions vary.

  • Writing section – this section is also unscored in the test but some universities refer to the answers written for selecting.

Some more information 

  • The test results are valid for 3 years.

  • It can be taken up to 3 times in 1 year.

  • The test can also be taken online. The fees are $160 and the results are sent via mail after about 3 weeks.

  • The test fees for a paper-based test are around $200.

  • There are no other requirements for the test.

  • The scores range from 120 to 180.

  • Students can register for the test 1 month before the test date.

Preparing

  • Students should take practice tests under the same conditions as on the test day, to get a better understanding of time management. 

  • The questions for every exam are quite consistent and hence practising previous question papers will help massively in preparation.

  • Students’ will 1 free practice test from the official website but can get more by using practice materials that are sold in many stores. 

  • Students can also choose to tutor to help them manage their study preparations and ensure sufficient practice.
