Every industry has undergone massive changes, just in the last decade, due to phenomenal technological advances and other changes in the world economy. The educational industry is no exception and students from 10 years back will find that a students’ life now, in certain aspects, is very different from what they had.
Many inconveniences, minor yet consequential, that students had to face then are practically non-existent now. Students don’t spend half as much on books as almost everything is found online and all class notes are deftly stored in a laptop or phone. Travel has become much cheaper and so, students don’t really worry about studying abroad as much as they would have. Students have access to so many apps that can bring them affordable transport within minutes, efficient deliveries, and even safety.
The students of today have so many more college courses to choose from, as many new majors keeping coming up, giving them a chance to pursue their true passions rather than making compromises. Colleges are also much more diverse than before are students from all around the world feel comfortable studying in new places. One can find food from all around the world, almost everywhere now and communication has definitely become much more advanced making sure no one feels homesick. The many social media platforms also in many ways keep students in touch with their peers and even help them find more about their work.
Though many things have certainly become better, there are always some drawbacks that can be found. Due to the high accessibility and financial adequacy, there is a very fierce competition to get into the best colleges. Most prestigious colleges still only accept a handful, with the multitude of applicants, the cut-offs are very high and tuition fees have undoubtedly shot up.
Though modern times have their advantages and disadvantages, we can definitely agree that developments that are coming up keep surprising us and things always seem to become more comfortable with them. A students’ life for a decade was not bad in any way, it’s just that things that we have now are just a bit better.
