The education system is the most efficacious weapon for a nation to develop itself and emerge as a country with a strong foundation. Every nation is running behind to capture the opportunities in the pedagogy system. India and the USA are also in the race, forming their strategies to appear as the world’s best education provider nation. No doubt, both countries are successful in producing numerous legends and outcast personalities in various domains. But it is difficult to ascertain which country has the best education system as both the system have their own merits and demerits. Also, both countries have diverse needs in terms of education.
Let’s have a look at the differences between the American Education System and the Indian education system.
-
The ratio of teacher and student
In India, one teacher has to handle more than 50 students. So, it is quite difficult for any teacher to pay attention to every child. But in the USA, one teacher is allotted only 20-30 students so that teacher can keep the track of learning progress of every student. This also increases the employment opportunities for teachers in the USA.
-
Rigidity or flexibility
In India, it is compulsory to study maths till grade 10 while in the USA, maths is an optional subject. Also, in India, there is a rigidity to study some fixed subjects during school time. No student can escape from these subjects. In the USA, students have the autonomy to select the subjects which they want to learn and explore. Hence, there is complete flexibility in learning what triggers your curiosity.
-
Qualifications to start teaching
In India, a person can start teaching as soon as they complete their undergraduate or postgraduate program. While in the USA, it is compulsory to obtain the state’s license and certification.
-
Infrastructural Differences
Some universities and colleges were built in the ancient period in India, thus lacking some major facilities. Also, there is a shortage of benches and chairs, another infrastructure is in bad shape in some government schools and colleges. The USA, being a developed country has cutting-edge infrastructure and digital facilities in their educational institutions.
-
Recognition of teacher
In India, a teacher is regarded as a Guru and given respect equivalent to parents. Students are always taught to talk with their teacher in a dignified way. This is embedded in Indian culture. In the USA, this recognition is not given to a teacher.
-
Examinations system
In India, all students including lower classes and higher classes have to appear for examinations. But in the USA, there are no formal examinations for lower classes. Only students from higher classes are subject to give examinations.
-
Tenure of courses
In India, the 10+2+3 system is followed where a student has to devote 3 years to complete his/her bachelor program. While in the USA, the 10+2+4 system is followed which is a bit longer as a student has to devote 4 years to complete the undergraduate course.
-
Baggage for school
In the Indian education system, more emphasis is laid on whether the student has brought books of all the subjects or not. As a result, students are expected to carry a lot of books even in the lower grades. On the other hand, Students are not expected to carry such a load of books in the USA.
-
Entrance exams
In India, not all courses have entrance exams. Students who want to do Medical, engineering, MBA, or any master’s degree have to give entrance exams. For the rest of the courses and programs, the percentage of higher secondary is considered. But in the USA, after completing high school, students have to appear for entrance exams like the ACT, SAT to secure admission in college and universities.
