A major decision all students and parents likewise make is choosing a college. There are many things to consider, such as infrastructure, location, faculty, etc., but a major concern is the fees. As times have changed, quality of education, course options, infrastructure have all changed for the better but this also has resulted in a major increase in fees. But still, for most families, the decision is not whether they should spend this money or not but rather is if the education that will be supplied will prove to be an asset.
Many students spend tremendous amounts of money for college fees for a “top-notch” education only later to be buried alive in an avalanche of student debts, only because they have not succeeded in procuring a financially satisfactory job. The high demand for high earning jobs is not met adequately as there has also been a rise in competition as there is no dearth of degree-holding professionals. Hence a puzzling decision to make is whether the investment will bring back the principle amount along with ample interest for a financially secure future.
What needs to be considered is whether the degree that is to be obtained actually in need in the current or near-future market. This will in some way ensure at least some chance of profitable employment. Then, there are many career options that are always in demand and have a high reward factor, so, the student should consider those options as well. There should also be ample discussion on whether the college offers all that is needed and if the placements after completion of the course are rewarding. Colleges in different countries should be considered as they may offer the same facilities or more for a lower tuition fee.
Considering the worlds’ market that constantly changes its needs, to make such a decision is quite a risk. Nevertheless, education is never in vain, no matter what the course subject is, if the student is truly determined about their work and strive to keep trying and not succumb to failure they will eventually find their money well spent.
